Bernhard Beumer Maschinenfabrik GmbH, Beckum, has been specializing in the manufacture of machines and plants since being founded in 1935. The range of products includes both standard and special solutions in the fields of conveyor, loading, paletting and packaging systems, as well as in the fields of sorting and distribution systems. The scope and variety of this product line and the way in which the individual components are combined to form a complete system places high demands on electrical connection technology. Fast and inexpensive connections that can be manufactured easily and reliably, even in the case of on-site startups at home and abroad, are required. Reliable handling must also be guaranteed.

To meet all these requirements, Beumer has opted for the Quix quick connection modular terminal block from PHOENIX CONTACT for implementation in a vulcanizing works for steel cord belts.

In the 15 m long plant, reinforcement is applied to punched steel cord belts. Belts with a width of 200-2000 mm and lengths of 20-200 m are processed. The steel cord belts are subsequently fitted with cups at the reinforced positions and can then be used for conveying bulky material in cement works, for example. Such band elevators can cope with heights of up to 200 m, and streams of material to be conveyed of 2,000 m³/h and more.

Time-savings of up to 60 % can be achieved by using the Quix quick connection system. The conductors can be connected directly after being cut to length by simply levering them in with a standard screwdriver – the bothersome task of stripping them is not necessary. In the case of the Quix quick connection, a spring-loaded insulation displacement contact creates the connection between the conductor and the live parts of the modular terminal block. When the conductor is guided into the insulation displacement contact, the insulation is cut through, displaced and spring contact established. Additional strain relief struts and special snap fittings for the actuation slide ensure a permanently gas-proof and vibration-resistant connection. Rigid and flexible conductors with PVC and PE insulation can be clamped reliably. Multiple connections on the terminal point, even with differing cross-sections, are possible.

The Quix quick connection system exceeds the requirements of the relevant standards (EN 60998, EN 60947). Furthermore, long-term testing programs for vibration, the influence of climate and pollutant gases, guarantee connections with long-term stability, even in the harsh industrial atmosphere. No special tools are required for contacting the conductor; a standard screwdriver is sufficient. The family of quick connection terminal blocks is divided into two series with connection cross sections of 0.5-1.5 and 1-2.5 mm². There are feed-through, twin, PE and component terminal blocks.
