Roughly 450,000 people live in the Norwegian capital of Oslo. In the last 20 years, several new districts have been created in the northeastern part of the city in order to meet the demand for spacious housing. The more than 1,500 residential units are provided with long-distance energy by the controller system "Unigyr" from Landis & Gyr.

A newly installed glass-fiber network with a total length of over 5 km transports the data required for control to the individual house distributors securely and without interferences. The interfaces between the glass-fiber network and the the local house connections of the control units are LWL-T coupler modules from PHOENIX CONTACT These space-saving, rail-mountable converters have an RS 485 stub line, to which in turn up to 3 1 further subscribers in the copper-bound network can be connected.
