PC Link Function Exchanges Data Automatically Between Omron PLC’s

Application Description
In assembly and discrete machinery applications, there is often a requirement to link 2 pieces of equipment together to share control status and production information. A main machine may need to coordinate conveyor speed and equipment status with a packaging machine in the line. This can involve costly wiring of I/O or expensive communications equipment to implement this function. There is a need for a low cost; easy, reliable way to connect machinery together and share limited information between the control systems.  Reducing the cost involved in implementing this capability is critical to keeping the cost of simple control systems reasonable.
Application Solution Diagram
The diagram shows a 1:1 PC Link connection between 2 Omron CPM2C PLC’s. Through the built in RS232 ports, the PLC’s automatically exchange a data table of 8 words from each PLC.  This function is included in these Omron PLC Models: CPM1A, CPM2A, CPM2C, SRM1(-V2), CQM1, C200H Alpha, CS1. Set up is quick and easy using the PLC set up registers.

Omron Solution
The PC Link 1:1 Communications function is a quick easy way for 2 controllers to share data without the added cost of expensive I/O wiring or communications equipment. This function is one of many options available in Omron’s current line of Programmable Controllers.
  • Quick, easy connection of 2 Controllers with automatic Data Sharing.

  • No Ladder programming is required to implement this function!

  • RS232 Connection using reliable proven Omron Host Link Communications

  • Easy, inexpensive method to share data between a main machine and auxiliary equipment such as a conveyor or other machine modules in a production line.

  • Available in all current models of Omron PLC’s.

  • PLC Models can be mixed  - they don’t have to be the same model.

Advantages
  • Built in function without any ladder programming necessary

  • Automatic execution of data sharing on start up

  • CPM2A and CPM2C Micro PLC Models have 2 ports built in, leaving one port open for MMI or other communication connection.

  • Micro PLC’s can be easily connected to Omron’s CQM1 and C200H/Alpha and CS1 controllers

  • No additional hardware converters or software required.

  • Significant cost savings in wiring and engineering.

Industries and Applications
  • The PC Link 1:1 function is particularly suited for small to medium machine control applications connecting modules in a production line configuration.

  • Peripheral equipment and machinery such as feeders, conveyors, and pick and place machinery can be easily connected to the main control system using this function
