Model LS8000 Level Switch

LS8000 Level Switch

The LS8000 remote-mounted radio frequency (RF) level switch is the perfect choice when it is unsafe or inconvenient to mount the electronics directly to the probe on the vessel. The ultra-high sensitivity adjustment on the LS8000 allows sensing of the dryest powders, fines and flakes. The LS8000 is perfect for materials such as dry herbicides, carbon fines and fly ash, as well as virtually any liquid.

A maintenance-free epoxy-encapsulated transmitter is mounted in the explosion-proof head of the probe. The receiver board can be mounted up to a mile from the transmitter. The transmitter is connected to the receiver with a twisted, shielded pair of wires (Belden 8761 or equal). The receiver board is wired to the supply voltage and has all the necessary calibration adjustments, and the relay output. It is possible to calibrate the LS8000 without climbing a tall tank, or a probe can be located a long distance from a supply voltage. The remote mounting does not sacrifice the reliability, stability or performance that makes Babbitt International level switches famous.

Every standard unit has an on-board fuse and surge suppressor to protect the circuitry from power surges. Additionally, a static suppression circuit protects against hostile bin environments created by static-prone materials such as plastic pellets. The built-in timer allows the user to select ON DELAY or OFF DELAY operation if desired. The timing range is adjustable from 1/8 second to 2 hours. The timer can be used to ignore wave action in a turbulent vessel, or the timer can be used to pump down a sump with a single probe.

Calibration
All the necessary calibration indicators are on the receiver card so all you need to calibrate the LS8000 is a small screwdriver. When the probe is installed, it is calibrated in absence of material touching the probe. When the desired material comes in contact with the probe, the LS8000 is activated and gives the desired output. If the probe you ordered is too long, simply cut it off to the desired length with a saw. If you need to add length, just weld on additional rods. Probes of all lengths are available from the factory. Fail-safe electronics provide peace of mind. The modular electronics make trouble shooting and repair a snap. The entire unit is backed by our two year warranty.

Construction
The probe is made of solid 316 stainless steel rod and the insulator is made of Teflon. The seals are made with Viton "O" rings. The transmitter electronics are housed in a cast aluminum explosion-proof enclosure. The receiver board is provided with a snap-track mounting, or can be purchased with an optional enclosure.

APPLICATION NOTES
Remote mounted LS8000 receiver is normally supplied without an enclosure. An enclosure can be purchased as an option.
Transmitters for the LS8000 come in several sensitivities.  The factory normally matches the sensitivity to the probe length. Please specify sensitivity when ordering spare parts.
Transmitters come in two sizes, the standard LS8000 housing (3/4" NPT process connection), and one for the LS7000 housing (1" NPT process connection).
Transmitter sensitivities are noted in the upper right hand corner of the transmitter.
